For this brief I will be working as part of a small group.
As part of a team for this brief I will be working towards creating my own business. This will require me to collaborate with other students and make part of the design, financial and business choices towards thinking, creating and finalising my own business.
Firstly I discussed what would be required to be in the position to start a successful business, as a joint ownership. There are many things to take on board but after I received enough information about what I would be doing for this brief I worked within my team to discuss some of the options that we thought would be important to cover first.
Most of these various different points were design based instead of business based as I thought it would be important to work on a strong 'idea' that then making it easier to plan a business around the idea.
When receiving the information needed to begin the business I was told that during the idea generation process, there should be an idea that separated my teams business from the others. An aspect that would enhance the impact of the business..
I sat in my group and discussed 'business ideas'.
We instantly conversed ideas about what we could create that would give our business and 'edge'.
We had the idea of our Design Studio (business), having a public art/coffee house that will be become part of the studio. This idea is designed to 'promote the business name' to the public.
The end group decision was to create a creative design studio/coffee shop for the purposes of publicity, branding and extra income.
During the discussion of what was needed for the start of our business and the what jobs needed to be assigned to who, everyone agreed to let me concentrate on the overall decision making when it came to designs and branding, since branding is my strongest ability. Below are the designs that I individually created for the business CoffesSpace
I first designed the logo for CoffeSpace
I wanted to create a logo that was simple and catered for both the overall design of the creative studio and the coffee shop.
When deciding on the colour it was a group decision to go with a dark brown, The group was very happy with my completed logo design.
I then moved onto the the layout and physical design of the coffee shop and the studio, I used a room builder program which allowed be to use photoshop and illustrator to digitally build the coffee shop and studio space. Below are my final individual designs.
Above is the complete studio design, The overall layout and style is simple and welcoming, It would allow us as designers to work and use it as a studio as well as a professional environment to meet with clients and discuss work.
Above is the finished cafe design, consisting of the same welcoming theme as the studio and colour choice.
The group were very pleased with my finished building and layout designs and were happy to go ahead with using them as the potential designs for the completed business.
Alongside the design of the cafe and the studio I also created the website for both the studio and the cafe, I felt that this was the only way to show that the cafe and the studio were connected through an online portal.
I kept the design of the website consistent with the overall theme of the business, colour and images. The design of the website and navigation is kept simple so visitors can access the website and receive the information that we want to get out to the public about the business.
I then began to work on the main branding designs such as the promotional business cards and posters. The business cards I designed to be simple, consisting of the logo and the relevant contact information with the current theme of colour. However when discussing with the group we thought it would be a good idea for me to design a small poster campaign to help with purpose and publicity of the combined cafe and studio.
Above are the completed business cards in both light brown and dark, the group were pleased with how the design turned out.
The small poster campaign designs turned out really well, I created fun attractive questionable messages that will get the readers attention, The messages are supposed to prompt people minds into the services that CoffeeSpace provides. The poster campaign starts from the first poster on the far left which displays the business manifesto and then to the right the two poster designs follow with similar purpose to the manifesto. Again keeping the consisting colour the same. The group were very pleased with the small poster campaign.
After the above branding it became apparent that the CoffeeSpace cafe required a menu design, displaying prices of drinks and foods. However because there was a limited amount of time the design had to be rushed, therefore producing a design that was effective and consistent yet possibly too simple for a menu design. However The design I produced was satisfactory with the rest of the team.
Overall I feel that my designs and branding work for CoffeeSpace was very successful, The rest of my team constantly gave me positive feedback for the work I was producing, As I produced each design the Image of our business became stronger and stronger.
