OUGD502 - SB01 - Personal Branding - Updated Logo Design

I have recently re worked my personal logo design.

As I now enter the stages of starting up my own Branding Company
DAYMODESIGN

I felt that my brand required a new logo design, I wanted something more simplistic and modern and Monochrome

So below is my new redesign a long with a little information about how I came to this final logo design.

This is by far the best my favourite logo design that I have made. Now that I understand my self more as a designer I feel that channeling my love for Monochrome and simplicity through my brand has helped me to achieve the above design.

A lot of my inspiration has actually come from a lot of various brad logo's that I use very ofter and which are relevant to myself and my lifestyle.

The first is one of my favourite Coffee Suppliers 'CoffeeBoy'

I love the CoffeeBoy logo, because it is simplistic and can be adapted to absolutely any object because of it's black and white design.

A second design which I love is from a very nice bar which I go to a lot when I am in the city of Leeds, The first time I ever went to thsio bar I instantly noticed the logo design, similar to that of the above two.

The Oracle, has a very nicely designed logo, very similar to my own design, I did take some inspiration from this design also.

OUGD502 - SB02 - Why I chose Outside the Box for creative presence

Out of the companies that I havr researched I would definiutely say that I admore Outside the Box the most. For reasons which I spoke about in my research blog about them.

Also I think they OTB have the best websit goals in absoloutely every way and so the same goes for their logo design...

After my research into the company I decided to base my creative report on OTB, to find out more about the company and the people behind the screen. Then hopefully take all of this and compare it to myself on a proffesional level.

OUGD502 - SB03 - Brand Research - MODERNDESIGN.CO.UK

Modern design is a branding company that focuses and base everything off the practice of modernism. Including the statement 'that the best designs are the ones created in a modernist style. This is extremely visible from just looking at the website and the amazing use of white space.
After reading through some of the information on their website, it became very clear that the company focuses very heavily on attention towards the client and hardly anything about themselves and what they have achieved.

MODERNDESIGN.CO.UK

As stated below on one of the sites very few pages

This is the very first thing the visitor sees when clicking on the site. The page literally screams simplicity and modernism and on a personal level.. I absolutely love it. I think this says a lot about the company it'self.

This style of the company is extremely identical to my own. As they have based their style from modernism, so have I. As I share the same idea of graphic design and branding as ModernDesign.co.uk

The website design is very fluid and simple.

The logo design, I think I would have to say is a little too obvious and simple. The logo design is purely text and no design or use of shapes or image or anything, which I feel does not really represent 'personality' but on the good side it represent what the company stands for and that is modernism and simplicity.

There does not seem to be much presence of a back story or many business values.

On the home page where designs have been presented, I notice that the work is very high standard and their website itself is amazingly designed and probably one of the easiest to explore and navigate.

I respect this company because of their style of design, as I also believe that modernism is the best style of design compared to that of any other genre. I'm not sure how simplistic I personally would go though, I think to compare to the other companies I have research, history/story or even some essence of personality behind the screen.

OUGD502 - SB03 - Brand Research - The Engine Room

The Engine room is a branding company based in Huddersfield.

I first met the team at Engine room years ago, when I first started to study graphic design. I was working on a project for an event which was to take place in Huddersfield, My job was to effectively build the branding needed for the event which took several months to complete.

I ended up visiting ER to have some exposure in a professional atmosphere. I explained that I was working on branding design, soon after I ended up collaborating with Engine Room to work on the brief, which at the time was extremely exciting because it made me feel like a professional designer.

Ever since that project ended I have looked up and admired the Engine room greatly for my first experience within the industry. I do plan to visit them again to catch up and discuss what I have done so far and what I plan to do with my future as a designer. I'm hoping they may have some constructive opinions for me.

For the time being though I am going to include them in my research into the industry.

I would say that ER represent a much more refined and mature style compared to that of OTB. Making the Engisne a little more similare to my own personal style. The engine room have a much more interactive user inteface I feel and there seems to be a fair amount more of explanation about the business.

As stated on the website, Engine room are a lot mroe revolved around design that has the ability to tell a story.

The Engine Room specialise in many different things and have many skills to offer clients.

The skills thst the designers offer are, Delivering brand identity, company naming, product naming, creative copywriting, print design, digital delsign, and development, photgraphy, animation and video production.

The engine room have a lot to offer to clients, and I think there is something special about creating a story out of it. instead of just listing them. I think it says a lot about the company/people behind the screen.

I do admire the Engine room and what they have created. I really appreciate the idea that everything should have a story to tell and I feel that possibly applying the same values to own busieness would definitely be a step in the right direction.

OUGD502 - SB03 - Brand Research - Outside The Box

Outside the box, is a graphic design company based in Leeds.

This company specializes in full brand planning, advertising campaigns, and web design along with many other skills to offer clients.

One of the first things I noticed about OTB when browsing through their website is some of the positive things which they have written about the company. such as

"To help your brand fly away beyond where you imagine"

OTB show that the connection between client and designer is strong.

The first impression of OTB is spectacular.

I would like to discuss their website, the overall design and how much I love the design

First is the homepage

Which I think is absolutely splendid, it's the kind of highly effective yet minimal design which I really love. The yellow is really bold and it's extremely captivating as well as the pretty italic font.

Another one of my favorite things about outside the box is the logo

It's so simple yet so effective. I love that the name of the company has been transformed into an image and used as an icon image. lI feel that the choice in design is so successful that OTB does not even need to place the name next to the image, as I feel the image speaks for it'self. Plus I am thinking that this is where the high amount of yellow usage came from.

These phrases above were not too far from the homepage. meaning most visitors to the site will probably read these short pieces of text. Which is a good thing b because the values that OTB list here are very inspirational and I feel have the ability to provide a lot of confidence in the client in choosing OTB to build their brand.

Some of the brands that OTB have worked with are extremely admirable. there are so many pieces of clever and inspiring designs to look at.

As stated earlier OTB offers a lot of different skills for clients, which I think is essential for bringing in the most amount of work.

On the website, (in yellow circles) are listed a whole range of skills that they have to offer, and what's better is that these circles act as buttons which the site visitor can click on to obtain more information.

Now to compare OTB to my own branding business DaymoDesigns

I find myself looking towards OTB for inspiration as I have recently started my own business. Their Logo design to start is very inspirational to me, I feel that their logo design really shows what OTB is trying to express themselves, being a business that 'Thinks Outside of the Box'.
I do like my own logo design, as it is everything I like my business to stand for which is monochrome, simplicity. However, I would maybe like my logo to be more than a pretty design, I think I need to work on incorporating some kind of short story into the design that expresses the values of daymodesigns.

OTB's website have emphasised their skills as one of the most important things on the website. They have done through style and design as you can see on the last image above.  This makes me think as a visitor to this site, the skills section is quite important and I feel like I should aslo follow in the same footsteps as OTB.

Lastly I would like to compare the overall design of OTB to my own.
I love how the use of black and bright yellow has been incorporated elements of every page on the site, I feek like it really gives a sesne of personality to the business, which makes me feel that maybe I should experimenting with colours.
The feeling that I am left with after naviagting through the website is a sense of cinfidence in the brand and happiness.

OUGD502 - SB01 - Building DaymoDesigns

I have recently started professionally building my person brand and branding company
DaymoDesigns

I started with my new logo which I I feel represents the image that I want to be perceived which is Modernism and simplicity.

I then decided that it was time I created a professional website for DaymoDesigns along with an online portfolio to represent my abilities and design style. A professional website also provides another way for clients to gain a more personal connection as well as a way too contact me.

Below are some screenshots of the new website

OUGD502 - SB01 - PPP Self Presentation

After taking at look at my personal professional practice presentation which represents how I have changed as a designer and as an individual in the past year.

I noticed that my original presentation did seem a little unprofessional and slightly outdated, as some things in my life have changed compared to the information displayed.

So I redesigned the presentation to match reflect my qualities more and to have it updated ready for submission.

Below is the updated presentation.

OUGD502 - SB01 - Monochrome Design - Modernism

https://uk.pinterest.com/search/pins/?rs=ac&len=2&q=modern%20graphic%20design&eq=modern%20graphic%20de&etslf=9307&term_meta[]=modern%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=graphic%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=design%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined

Above is a small collection of designs that I absolutely love. Designs which really inspire me and spark a whole collection of ideas in my mind almost instantly.

not all of these images above are examples of modern graphic design a few of them represent modern architecture and structure. I believe that modernism and the idea of 'Monochrome' should be applied to everything that humans have the ability to manipulate.

I hope to gain the ability to perfect all of my design outcomes as well as the designs above have.

OUGD502 - SB01 - My Comfortability in Modernism

Slowly as this year has passed I have become very aware that I am becoming more and more drawn to a modernist lifestyle. Now for the purposes of this module and blog I will focus closely on explaing how this has effected my design work.

I have begun to understand that a lot can be expressed through 'simplicity' and 'uncomplicated creativity', which applies to many things within my design choices such as image, shapes, text, layout, color and so on. Understanding the genre of design that works best for me, I have applied the same techniques to my personality and every day life such as the way I dress, the way I make decisions and thre general way I act around myself and other people.

I think the best way for me to describe what I mean in one word is 'Monochrome'

Applying the beauty and simplicity of black and white to everything. I have rarley ever completed work using colour, If I ever have opted for a colour design then my choice and use is very minimal.
